The Wizard of OZ is coming to OZ !!!
Terry Root is internationally known as the "Prince of Paphs" or the "Wizard of Oz". This is because Orchid Zone has a reputation for growing the finest, most unusual slipper orchid hybrids in the world
Terry Root received an Encyclia citrina from his mother when he was just five years old. Unlike the saying "the rest is history", he was smittened until he discovered girls and cars. Twenty years later, he got back into orchids as a hobbyist. He got involved with the local orchid society in Monterey, California. When he was made librarian, he read the entire library so he could give people book advice.
Terry held a multitude of different professions before he started to grow
and breed orchids full-time. In 1981, he co-found The Orchid Zone, Ltd.
(a.k.a. OZ or The Zone) but the partnership ended in 1995. Through hard
work, dedication and "perfectionist" nature, Terry has made
OZ a world renown orchid nursery that produce high quality plants. He
is known as The Wizard of OZ and has become a breeders' breeder. Most
of his prized plants are sold to oversea collectors or other orchid breeders.
Besides orchids, Terry has many other interests. His current hobbies are
flying remote control airplanes and breeding Bengal cats.
