Bringing cut flowers for the Show?

With the assistance of staff of the WA Department of Agriculture and Food, a simplified process for bringing non-commercial quantities of cut flowers to WA for the orchid show has been developed. A single permit will be issued by AgWA to enable societies and individuals wishing to bring cut orchid flowers to Perth for the show. It is available as a downloadable document HERE. Any person bringing cut flowers with them will need to have in their possession a copy of this permit when they enter WA. All cut orchid flowers bought to WA will need to be inspected before they can be judged or placed in a display. An inspector will be at Burswood between 8-30am and 12.30pm on Tuesday 11 September to conduct these inspections. There is no charge for this service which is only available to bona fide non-commercial exhibitors. As you enter your orchid, or bring your cut flowers for your display, you will be directed to the inspector who will be situated close to the entry desk. We ask that you cooperate in this regard as AgWA staff have been very responsive to our request for assistance to make it as simple as possible for Easter states exhibitors.

Commercial quantities of cut orchid flowers will need to follow standard import application and inspection procedures for which a fee is payable.

Bringing live orchid plants for sale?

Incoming commercial quantities of orchid plants, bare rooted, if not inspected in the state of origin, or in media if inspected in the state of origin will be inspected at Burswood on Tuesday afternoon unless otherwise arranged. A fee is payable for this service and will need to be paid at the time the inspection is conducted.

Purchasing plants to take home to New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory or Tasmania?

Registrants and visitors from NSW, Vic and SA purchasing plants to take home with them will require certification that the plants have been inspected and found to be free of green snail. See HERE

For Northern Territory visitors, a special arrangement has been made. Please read the instructions HERE

The Information for taking orchids to Tasmania can be seen HERE

Qld presently has no restrictions regarding orchids being taken to that state.

To assist Eastern States registrants and visitors who purchase plants to take home, the Conference Organisers have arranged for a AgWA inspector to be on site at the Show on Friday 14 September from 1.30-4.30 to conduct plant inspections and issue required certificates. This service is provided free of charge for people taking non-commercial quantities of orchids home, with the standard fee of $56 per 15 minutes being absorbed by the Conference Organisers. If you wish to utilise this service, you will need to book with the Registration Desk providing your name, your home state, a contact number (preferably mobile phone) and the number of plants to be inspected. This will enable scheduling of the inspection times (an inspector is able to inspect approximately 10 plants per 15 minutes). You will be allocated a time on a first come, first served basis.

If you are not able to utilise this service, or have more than 10 plants to be inspected, you will need to contact the AgWA Quarantine WA Quality Assurance Officer on 9334 1800 or Kirsten Zloich at AgWA on 9334 1820 or mobile 0419 957643 to book an inspection the following week, and attend their premises at 9 Fricker Road, Perth International Airport. A fee of $56.00 per 15 minutes of part thereof is payable for this inspection service and issue of certificate and can be made to by cash or credit card.
